Funny how things can change in a 162 game season so quickly. Just 2 days ago, the Tigers looked like garbage against the Twins, and their lead was slimmed down to a 1/2 game. Verlander was to start off against KC in a 3 game series likely to decide the division. JV came into the game with the most runs allowed in the entire league. Well, we all know what happened. The Tigers, and JV himself, had something to prove, and sent a clear message. Today, was Maxs turn in a gritty effort to get a narrow win vs Shields and company. It wasnt pretty, but it got the job done. Looking forward, we have our steadiest 2014 SP in Slick Rick, facing up against a guy whos given up at least 8 runs (Guthrie) the last two times weve seen him. Yes, on PAPER it looks like we should get the sweep. On the 22nd, KC will have to make up the rest of a suspended game vs Cleveland, in which they trail by 2 runs in extra innings, and the Tigers play the White Sox. What does all this mean? The Tigers could very realisitically gain 4 games in the standings in 4 days, and pretty much seal KCs fate. Heres to Rick Porcello throwing a CG shutout tomorrow, and furthering cementing the Tigers spot at the top of the mountain in the AL Central. We need to put the pedal to the metal at this point, and try to seal it up early enough to reset our rotation going forward. Seeing JV and Max pitch well is definitely encouraging as well, but Brad needs to get Nathan out of the closer spot before it bites us in the ass in a crucial game. GO TIGERS!
