Funny thing, sort of: Today we were visiting and touring Middlebury College, in Vermont, and I was somewhat surprised to see Tucker Carlson and his son with us in the group of prospective applicants and their parents. Why would that surprise me? Because Carlson is a conservative political pundit whose Daily Caller website (which publishes the likes of Andrew Breitbart) receives heavy funding from a wealthy climate change denier, and Carlson is an active denier himself. Why is that relevant? Because Middlebury is among the most committed and aggressive schools in the county when it comes to the environment, in general, and climate change, in particular...including a very impressive goal of being a net-zero campus by the year 2016 (a goal they are well on their way to meeting). To top it off, a significant part of the orientation session (which was more than an hour) addresses Middlebury and the environment, from related programs to the schools culture. So...anyway...after the orientation, we broke up into three groups, each taking a tour with a student guide. Carlson and his son were in the same group we were. But after a short while, without saying anything, they peeled off from the group (which, by the way, had a fantastic student tour guide) and disappeared. Part of me wonders why they were there in the first place, since that aspect of Middlebury is well known?
