Funny timing because I just started noticing the huge age disparity between couples on screen. Most recently in the D & G commercial featuring Matthew Mconaughey and Scarlett Johansson (15 years age gap). Looking at the most notable films Ive watched recently a 7-10 year age gap really is quite common, far more common then similarly aged couples.Then again its not uncommon that you see men with younger women. The US consensus Bureau says In terms of married couples where the male is older 33.2% (the biggest majority) saw just 1 year in the age difference, 20.4% were 2-3 years in difference and then 13.3% were 4-5 years. A 10-14 year age gap was only 4.3% of those surveyed. Maybe its just the stuff Im watching (indie, arthouse M rated) and I have no statistics on it but it seems hollywood really likes to exaggerate the disparity. Probably men living out and propagating a fantasy whereby they are allowed to age gracefully and remain desirable but the women have to stay plum and peachy. Actresses probably try to play women under their age because disproportionate to males, thats who most interesting female roles are written for.
