Fuoff Farm ( Copy right B Norval ) “So what does it take to kill the pain”, he asked, “What have we got, and I’ll tell you” was my response and he still did not get the joke! Defeating extreme and/or persistent pain for decades is either Zen or the end! Pain control does work, sometimes, but there is always a cost even if the most noticeable one is hours lost every year at the doc’s, or in another hospital waiting room; mental impairment, mood alteration, constipation, addiction and so many more lurk just below common view and a life like that requires either compliance, which, well?! Or Zen and a determination to persist in a none shitty way, no matter how sticky it gets. So how do you deal with that kicked in feeling, the point where the silent scream has to find a voice, do you do, I can pretend that I am capable devolving my spirit from this experience, the anticipation and expectation of pain is worse than it really is, bull! Or do you buckle down bite the carpet and scream defeated in every breath you draw. Both valid expressions of the extreme or do you become unapologetically you, plough your own path, accept that it is about “whatever it takes” when pain forces its presence into every waking breath, the very act of completing a day with your temper being absent in expression is an achievement worthy of applause . So the next day you ask this Haemophiliac how are you today Dr, I will say fine but what I really mean is, my Peripheral Neuropathy hasn’t driven me to tears yet today, my Irritable Bowel hasn’t bent me double for a day or two, my Arthritis is just sore instead of (insert swear word) sore, the kidney pain is just at one baseball bat bash instead of the usual multiple impact feeling, I am only vomiting twice a week instead of twice a day, and I only think of death as a form of pain control once a day instead of all day. Haemophiliacs fed bull and poison for decades!
