Further, God gives qualifications for church leaders, bishops and deacons. “This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife…one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?)…Likewise deacons must be reverent…Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well” (1 Tim. 3:1–12). [underline emphasis added] Here the male gender is referenced no less than twelve times. And the church being the Bride of Christ affirms the God-established order for both the home and church, saying, “But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God” (1 Cor. 11:3).
