Further to Nyngan NSW this is appearing on many of the Free Choice forums at the moment. .. The following statement has been posted on the Caravaners Forum today. Council’s resolution was “that Council withdraw from the RV Agreement and remove the signs advertising Nyngan is a RV Friendly Town. A sign no unauthorised camping at the showground to be erected”. Council came to this decision after strong representation to our meeting by the owners of our two caravan parks. They were greatly concerned that the current arrangements we had at our showground stemming from our required agreement for RV Friendly status was costing them patronage. One key aspect of this was that our showground should provide free camping to motorhomes, campervans and caravans for a period of up to 96 hours. This is a direct quote from the Letter of Understanding re RV Friendly Towns Scheme criteria. Council agreed that this requirement had the potential to take business away from our caravan parks. We have also observed that some of the previous occupants of the showground under this arrangement had been using our amenities and plugging into our power outlets. We are not in a position financially to employ a full time care taker for our showground. We are disappointed to receive a numbers of emails and messages indicating displeasure that we have ceased to be a RV Friendly Town. In one of the car and caravan, motorhome parks in the centre of our CBD area is a receptacle to allow waste from these units to be unloaded. This was installed by Council some years ago and I believe remains of considerable service to travellers passing through our town. There are also other areas in and around Nyngan where motorhomes can park. Bogan Shire Council and the Nyngan community continue to welcome in a very friendly manner any travellers passing through and constantly get positive feedback about our town’s amenities and local shops. We hope you can understand the reasons why we have taken this decision and continue remain a RV Friendly town. RL Donald Mayor
