Fury - You can tell from this film that it is a post Saving Private Ryan film. It has the similar violence spattered throughout the film yet it manages to do something different with it so it doesnt feel like youre watching the opening of SPR again. WW2 films can often miss the mark and be quite dull (just like Saving Private Ryan, with the exception of the Normandy landings, the film just has nothing to offer) however Fury keeps on engaged and interested throughout. Having said that, there is a strange disconnect between audience and character (certainly for me) and its because very few people now alive have experienced what these men did. But I never once felt like I really got to know any of these characters, Brad Pitt plays the sage and Logan Lerman the student. One doesnt particularly like either too much. One interesting thing the film does, is that it paints some of the allies (the American Sherman Tank crew) as behaving just as bad as the Nazis, and although this has caused some to balk, its unfortunately probably more accurate than we would like to believe, and in a post Game Of Thrones world where everyone is both good and bad, this film really takes that idea and runs with it. The film is laid out in a quiet talking scene, imparting wisdom, followed by a battle, followed by more talking, then another battle and so on and while I felt that some people in the audience possibly found the talking scenes to be a bit too long, I thought it flowed quite well. The other main fault with the film is that I dont buy the relationship between Lermans character the the tank crew, mainly because the film all seems to happen in one day, and I dont buy how close some of them become within such a short amount of time. Brave, interesting and flawed, I enjoyed it, even if it did leave me rather cold. https://youtube/watch?v=-OGvZoIrXpg
