Future innovations Two weeks ago, GT Corner published a post discussing carbon nanotubes and their ability to generate energy to eventually replace bigger-sized batteries. This week’s future innovation goes to 3D-printed batteries. The 3D printers have been in the news lately showing off very clever or amazing reproductions. Recently, researchers from Harvard were able to print a lithium-ion battery the size of a grain of sand. What’s more impressive is that this battery can hold the charge of a current laptop battery. The ink has concentrated amounts of lithium oxide printed in a five-pronged, sixteen-layered shape. Also, the battery weighs 100 micrograms. Imagine the possibilities! The link below has the complete story, plus an embedded video so you can see the printing in action: news.cnet/8301-17938_105-57590534-1/3d-printed-pinhead-battery-could-power-robots/
