In a befitting tribute to a stellar career, especially on the day he was given a tearful farewell, Prime Ministers Office (PMO) on Saturday announced the countrys highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, for Sachin Tendulkar.The cricketing legend became the first sportsperson to get the award, whose past recipients have been such dignitaries as Jawharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Sir CV Raman, Satyajit Ray, Rajendra Prasad, Mother Teresa and Indira Gandhi. The award will also be conferred on eminent scientist Prof CNR Rao. 2. International Day for Tolerance was observed on 16 November 2013 across the world to educate people about the need for tolerance in society and to aware them about the dangers of intolerance. 3. The 22nd Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, CHOGM began in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 15 November 2013. The Summit was inaugurated by Prince Charles of England, who is representing Queen Elizabeth at the Commonwealth Summit. 4. Lord Swraj Paul, a leading NRI industrialist and educationist was presented with the International Indian of the Decade award on 15 November 2013. Swraj Paul was presented the award for his outstanding achievements in the fields of industry, education and philanthropy. 5. Defending champion Viswanathan Anand lost to world No.1 Magnus Carlsen after 58 moves in a gruelling fifth game of the World Chess Championship in Chennai on Friday. 6. With the intension to boost Indias Maritime warfare Capabilities,INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier inducted into Indian Navy. INS Vikramaditya was commissioned by Dmitry Rogozin, Russian Deputy Prime Minister and AK Antony, Union Defence Minister. 7. National Press Day celebrated across the country. This is the day on which the Press Council of India started functioning as a moral watchdog to ensure that not only did the press maintain the high standards expected from this powerful medium but also that it was not fettered by the influence or threats of any extraneous factors. This day is the symbol for the free and responsible press in India.
