G-d decided to teach mankind to think, and the method He chose to do this was music! An extraodinary melody can induce a change in consciousness, like an awakening. Imagine you lived in a time before music was invented and then suddenly you heard a swelling melody, beautiful harmonies, a hypnotic rythm. Your first thought would be, What on earth is this?. Music would seem like an enchantment as if there was a change in the quality of air around you. Listening to this new sound would seem like your mind was expanding. That is why I insist that all my children learn to play a musical instrument and do music as a school subject. Music has healing qualities, restoring the natural harmonies of body , soul and spirit. No wonder the Cubans also insist that music forms part of the compulory curricullum like maths! The Germans swear that they are what they are not because they have a technical and industrial mind but because their creativity and industry is fuelled by music , poetry and art. Art is good for the body, mind and soul!
