GARDEN SHARING WEEKEND - 11 OCTOBER 2014 ANGELS IN PARADISE! We have just found a couple of knowledgable volunteers to work sporadically in the garden. they have already had a major effect doing work that I can no longer take on. ZHANG YI is a realtor who would rather be a potter, so Im helping her with the clay while she helps me with the garden. A very good sharing of skills I think. SUZANNE CLARY is a participant in the program at the Horticultural Centre of the Pacific. Part of their program is to work as a volunteer for a full week of 35 hours in two different gardens during their 10 month study. She has been here for five full days of beautiful weather, tending to the Asian Woodland Garden where almost all the plants originate in the Orient, China, Korea and Japan. Suzanne has done a great job of cleaning up plants that have become overgrown and intrusive, Dividing other plants and generally putting it into a nice visual spread that also acts as a winter garden where plants and shrubs are in bloom throughout the winter. In the winter, there are massed variations of hellebores and bulbs as well as flowering shrubs such as camellias, viburnums and early Azaleas. Just as Suzanne was packing up her tools and finishing her week it started to rain, the first serious rain in 3 months. Right now there are several Japanese maples that are currently changing their changing their leaf color, Maples Shiraswanum (Full Moon), Trompenburg and Corallinianum (Coral Bark) are currently doing their thing. Perennials with interesting leaf marking and interesting flowers along with fading Hostas.
