GCE BOARD SALES CERTIFICATES!!! Monday October 28th, 2013 I made a stop at the delegation of education Buea south west region of Cameroon to collect a GCE advance level certificate that I sat for as an external candidate and passed. I remember I had registered for the examination and paid what was meant for the certificate and under the ministry of education then. At the delegation I was given information certificates of the year 1991 to date are in the care of the GCE board that has decided to print and that I would have to get there, I will be given two forms to fill and one says I would have to pay five thousands francs (5000fcfa) before I would be issued this certificate. I repeated to the informant saying “do you mean paying five thousands francs before you are issued a certificate you registered for and wrote?” Mr.X almost got red for I had repeated five. That was in room 3 on the right third floor delegation of education Buea. What next, five thousands not in my agenda and or budget, I had to trek from the delegation to the GCE board, under a hot sun this day in Buea to collect a certificate that is of no value when job openings come up and when actually you use them for application as a job seeker. While trekking down to the board office, I had a lot of mixed thoughts as to why go for something that worth’s nothing? All the same I wondered down to the place and finally decided to collect for nothing. At the entrance in to the compound you would see a queue of candidates for collection of certificates and if you want two you pay ten thousands francs. I asked for the forms to fill I was given one what I filled and the young man collecting asked me the year I wrote I told him back in 1993 he marked the sign ok on the form and asked me to wait in a room next by I did just that and mind you I had to wait for hours from 10:15 am to 3pm when I asked for how long would I have to wait. The guy told me the person got out of office and is not yet back, his where about could be on phone only. We come from far and have to get back and some need to use those certificates for registration into higher institutions, public examinations (concours) to travel out with, to apply for jobs that may not be gotten, to enrich their CVs, etc. I was there to collect mine for pleasure, to admire the design of the paper, with the thoughts that maybe it is well designed that an employee could just hire me because of the design of the certificate I am to pay for; I thought it could be the certificate that would bring lucky to me out of the university and diploma certificates I posses. I admired the way my young compatriots were so curious to get the certificates I thought of the number of years I passed that examination and still could have hopes out of focus to be employed.But to my surprise, it was the same format of an A4 paper colored lightly with an undefined space in the middle. All is that I bought that paper for 5000fcfa for no course and I keep it he who wants it I can sell at a give away price if it serves your thoughts in any way. Why could the ministry not finish its job of printing the certificates for the poor candidates? Does it have any value to treat humans with hardness whereas we know very well the pains a jobless person should be undergoing and to collect what he thinks is his after paying for you got to pay again to get what would not give you the job. I want to know that devils advocate who in that position today paid money for registration of the examinations they are imposing money on candidates today, tomorrow we will learn the government gives subventions for the running of the board and the Francophone would certainly copy from the Anglophones such a mess, a disgrace. And in all these, you go into files you would discover that those who make things sour for the poor went to school on scholarship sponsored by the government what then have you paid back the government with as appreciation, its just like defending the payment of fees in the university after crossing the bridge they break it and so long they are fine, the poor can perish. The sparrow hulk call it popularly (Épervier) should trace cases like this, paying money to collect a certificate, why should the candidates decide to leave them with you what would you do with them? And to those of you who have the means to afford the money to pay; what about the poor who have not and want to have. Should the ministry intervene for the poor and right to a certificate that would help us much. The nation should be informed of the payment before collection of the certificate and not that we get embarrassed when on the spot and if you want to evaluate the headquarters of the sit of the office of the GCE board, it is a shame, no flag to show it is an educational institution, all you see is dirt, it resembles and environment the tenants want to desert for a different site yet subventions are given for management. Management in fact is a good subject and if they management of the GCE board needs a manager they should hesitate to sent out calls for application I would be a candidate. And they have all the department in their projects to get the money yet the place does not resemble I repeat, an office of intellects and educationist. God forbid it is not a partisan affair for those who fought for it are not those enjoying the outcome and the fight was for the poor and the needy and not for big cars and fat stomachs. Please think twice and reverse that decision to pay for the collection of certificates, it means buying the certificate. If not those who need one drive to Buea and pay 5000fcfa you would get one, and make sure corrections are all made before you leave since that would be another trap, and why corrections to be made where the mistakes comes from and the corrections are paid. If you doubt me get to the place and read the notice board, with big loud sounding signatures, then observe keenly, you would suspect all move in that compound as not clear, what a virus! My fellow job seekers and friends, start looking for an anti virus for the sparrow hulk cannot kill this virus and if we can develop another anti virus that serves us and our children right.
