GCFA League Division 1 League Match 1 Sat 30th August 14 Rosehill United 4 Greater Glasgow 0 Anthony McCulloch, David Logan, Chris Bruff, Scott Burns, Kevin Docherty, Gerry Spencer, Darren Doyle, Scott Sneddon, Alan Docherty, Gareth Greer and Tam Whittaker Subs Alan Macintosh, Andy MacRitchie, Darren Cleary, David Taylor and Owen ODonnell Goals ; Darren Doyle (7) Gareth Greer (24) Tam Whittaker (60) Pen (65) Rosehill were delt the blow of having Andrew Caulfield ruled out through illness and George Smith also being unavailable for todays match day squad, More positive news was that Alan Macintosh, Gareth Greer and Kevin Docherty returned to the squad. The game started at a good pace and within four minutes Rosehill should have taken the lead when captain Tam Whittaker slipped winger Alan Docherty through on goal, Docherty slid the ball past the keeper but the covering defender cleared the ball off the line. Minutes later Rosehill took the lead when Scott Sneddons drilled corner found Darren Doyle who took a touch and placed the ball beyond the Keeper. On 15 minutes Rosehill should have had a penalty when Tam Whittaker was brought down after beating two men but the ref turned down the appeal. On 24 minutes Rosehill doubled their lead when Spencer found Gareth Greer in space around 40 yards from goal, Greer beat two men and smashed an unstoppable 25 yard shot straight into the top corner of the net. Strikers Gareth Greer and Tam Whittaker had good chance to put the Hill further ahead but the number one of Greater Glasgow thwarted both their attempts. Greater Glasgow almost pulled one back when Hanlon got away from Spencer but the angle was too tight and he fired his shot past the post. Just before half time Gareth Greer almost scored a goal of the season contender when he found space out wide around 45 yards from goal, he beat the full back and his cross-come shot beat the keeper but clipped the bar and bounced away to Saftey. Half time Rosehill United 2 Greater Glasgow 0 Minutes after halftime Sneddons clever pass to Whittaker was instantly controlled, Whittaker took a great touch before beating the defender before trying to slip the ball past the keeper but his shot was well saved. Another chance for the Hill and it was Doyle who played Greer clear through on goal but Greers attempted chip finished inches over the crossbar. Manager Alan MacDonald made a sub bringing on Andy MacRitchie for Alan Docherty The Hill finally got the goal they were pushing for when Bruff was fouled inside the penalty area, PENALTY Captain Tam Whittaker stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way. The fourth goal wasnt far behind and this time it was a well worked goal, Skilful Gareth Greer flicked the ball over the defender for Whittaker to run through and beat the keeper from close range. Manager MacDonald then sent on Cleary and Taylor for Spencer and Greer Defender Chris Bruff had a chance to score when Sneddons corner found him Free at the back post, but the big defenders header finished over the bar. Minutes later MacIntosh and ODonnell were introduced for Sneddon and Whittaker. Nothing much happened in the final 12 minutes of the match and the score line remained the same. Full Time Rosehill United 4 Greater Glasgow 0 Managements Man of the Match - Darren Doyle All in all a much improved performance after last sata poor showing against Olympique Energetik. there is still plenty of room for improvement though and hopefully we will do that in our midweek match with Shawlands Accies.
