GEMS FROM THE RIGVEDA While focusing on the hate practiced by tyrants on their victims, this current Mantra talks of ocean-waves bashing and sinking ships. Ships are vessels constructed in watertight fashion to float atop water. However, when stormy winds and ferocious waves mercilessly bash a ship, they can compromise the ship’s watertight integrity; water will then quickly enter the hull, the water weight will overcome the ship’s buoyancy and eventually cause it to sink. Like ships that are meant to float and successfully reach their docking port, we human beings are also meant to silently and peacefully plough through event-waves in the world-ocean and effortlessly arrive at our destination-port of success and harmony. However, anti-social, tyrannical elements are always watching. They burn when they observe that others can be either as, or even more, successful than they are. They look at us while we move forward, study our profile of success, plan to impede us and thus, descend on us in pointless fury. If a ship is old, weak or poorly constructed, it will soon crack into pieces from the fury unleashed by stormy winds and tsunami-like waves. Similarly, if our personality-ship is weak and faint-hearted, if timidity will rob us of courage to face up to the violent methods of tyrants, then we too will crack and disintegrate from the force of their hostility.
