GEMS Public School Background. Gilgit-Baltistan is a high land mountain area with characteristic climatic and physical conditions. People of Gilgit-Baltistan are leading a simplified life style and adamantly striking to the traditional colors of the region. However, people of this area are found of education and are doing their best to fulfill the educational needs. People have formed so many educational institutes which are of great help to uplift the spirit local communities. GEMS Public School is celebrating 15 years of providing quality education in Gilgit region. Back in 1997, few devoted and talented folks of Meherbanpura Amphary felt the need of a quality institution Gilgit. The institution was founded by private group of intellectuals from Meherbanpura Amphary and was inaugurated by Shaheed-e-Mazllom Syed Aga Zia-ud-Din Rizvi. Initially the institution was called ‘Gilgit-English Medium School and recently its name has been changed to GEMS Public School Gilgit. The very first batch constitute of eight (8) students only. We are pleased to announce the success stories of GEMS Public School FIRST batch as guiding tool following students. A GEMS Public School alumnus includes; 1. Bena Akbar d/o Dr. Akbar Shah [Medical College] 2. Waseem Akbar s/o Akbar Khan [Medical college] 3. Naveed Akbar s/o Akbar Khan [Engineer College] 4. Masood Hussain s/o Ghulam Abbas [BBA] 5. Mashood Hussain s/o Ghulam Abbas [BBA] The school has been shifted to its present location from Ali Mohallah. A massive shift in the structure has given birth to lots of problems. The main reason of such shift was; a. There were lack of rooms in the old building. b. There was no play ground for the student to play. c. There was no space to Conduct morning Assembly This new building ensures certain issues along with lots of other issues. Students enrolled at GEMS Public School comes from various backgrounds. Almost forty (40) students who are getting education in this school belong to “Madarsa Tarbiat Gaah Bab-Ul-Elm”. Fifty percent (50%) of them are getting free education. Moreover, numbers of students are getting full and partial fee remissions along with free books, uniform and stationary. All this was just impossible without your support. The school administration thank you all for being so helpful and we will be needing your co-operation at every stage. As mentioned earlier, the school is not getting any direct financial support to address the financial situation of the institution. We deeply encourage parents and community involvement. In the new session we have granted admissions in 9th class also. We are also providing hostel facilities to the new comers who join us out of town. Interested students may contact with the Principal. The school is facing problems due to new investments on renovation along with RENT of the building. The computer Lab needs and extension. There is a need of establishment of a library setup along with a well equipped science laboratory. The administration is also looking forward to establish a Sport club which needs your attention. GEMS Public School Gilgit is being supervised by Gilgit-Baltistan Social Welfare Organization (G-B SWO) works for the development of Gilgit-Baltistan by targeting social and economic frontiers like education, environment, tourism, economic development, health and individual awareness. The geographical areas, we cover, are Gilgit, Astore, Skardu, Hunza-Nagar, Diameer, Ghizer, and Ghanche. The organization mostly focuses on educational section at the moment.
