GENERAL ELECTIONS (2014) AND INTERNATIONAL OBSERVERS. SADC - TopicsExpress

GENERAL ELECTIONS (2014) AND INTERNATIONAL OBSERVERS. SADC meeting with the leader of Front Socialiste at his residence. Devarajen Kanaksabee, the leader of FS had put forward that despite there is no electoral fraud in Mauritius the election is not free and fair. He had also drawn the attention of SADC how political parties apart from the mainstream ones are penalised, for example, the deposits of candidates had raised from Rs 250 to Rs1500, and in the near future only traditional parties will exist. Many newspapers and radios ignored the participation of emerging political parties and show their preference for other political movements. There is no freedom of expression but there is freedom of propaganda by those papers which are commercial ones. As far as the MBC is concerned it is only during electoral campaign that it allows all parties for broadcasts sessions. And in between two elections our national television is the propaganda box for the governmental party. Big political parties spend much more money on their campaigns that are allowed by laws and sometimes they are financed by occult forces and sometimes by private sectors which in return received many favours from the regime. In fact those well-financed political organisations could not convince the electorate with arguments but they rather influence voters by fraudulous means and corruption with plenty of banners and what not. D.Kanaksabee had also told the observers that ethnic minorities are persecuted in Mauritius. The Front Socialiste had elaborated on many cases of injustice and discriminations. To sum up the Front Socialiste had told the South African Development Community (SADC) that in Mauritius there is no democracy but there is demon-cracy.
