GENERAL INFORMATION FOR ALL GIANTS AND ZIKITES After a successful meeting of the Students Union Government (SUG) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (UNIZIK) and Ifite Hostels Presidents over the abnormal increase in house rents Friday, The following resolutions were reached: 1. That students living or intending to live off campus whose rents were increased or about to be increased should not pay or renew their rents until instructed to do so by the union. 2. That students should report any rent increment to the Department of Ifite Presidents Forum (IPF) which is a department of UNIZIK SUG. 3. That on a specific note, students living or intending to live in the under listed hostels SHOULD NEVER pay or renew their rents till further notice from the union. 4. That all lodges should try and register with the IPF to help the union serve better. 5. That all electricity bills payment should now be handled by tenants (students) and no more the landlords or caretakers. ON THE ABUSE OF STUDENTS RIGHTS BY MEMBERS OF ANTI CULT The Unions Chief Judge Justice I.A Muoneme informed students that it is totally wrong and illegal for an anti cult member to beat or use force on student(s) in their lodges just because they were invited over student-student misunderstanding that can be treated in a civil manner. Justice Muoneme said that such civil cases are only handled at the office of the school security. He further told students that it is wrong to call anti cult on phone just because of ordinary conflict or misunderstanding among students. According to him, any student that has civil case(s) with fellow student(s) should report such to the security office of the institution after which the security department will issue a letter containing the allegations to the defendant (student reported) who will be required to visit the security department to defend his or her self. The Chief Judge however, clarified that the anti cult can only be called on phone in time of security emergencies like cult crash or robbery. He further warned hostels presidents to stop calling anti cult on phone over a mere case that can easily be settled in a civil manner. Justice Muoneme further advised the students to report any case of abuse by anti cult member(s) to his office as he vowed to follow such case to a conclusion. He also stated that any student(s) that have criminal case(s) should report to the anti cult, but if it is civil then such student(s) have the alternative of using the Union Court for better justice with award of damages or report to the school security if such student feels that they can handle it better. In his speech, the union President Comrade Ibe Chukwunonso Cico Michael expressed satisfaction with success recorded so far from the struggle and pledged the willingness of the union to continue with the efforts of restoring true and disciplined unionism back in the university.
