GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO PLEASURES OF LIFE During the one hundred - TopicsExpress

GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO PLEASURES OF LIFE During the one hundred years of life, a man should practice 3 levels of life: Spiritual or Virtue (Dharma), Materialistic or Wealth (Artha) and Pleasure or Love (Kama) at different times and in such a manner that they may harmonize together and not clash in any way. All men desire long life, knowledge, fame, love, justice, and final salvation. While other species of animal kingdom seek only survival. For long life, pure food (sattvika) is most important. Those who are careful about food avoid sickness, and are always happy and cheerful. Moreover, they acquire qualities connected with good luck, such as strength, beauty, intelligence, memory, and patience (For more details see guides on Eat More and Lose Weight and A New Look at Vegetarianism). Apart from food, air, water, and exercise are factors of a long life (If you have further interest in these topics, see the guides on The Air We Breathe in Home and Outside and Forever Young). Besides these anxiety must be avoided. Just as fire burns the dead, so anxiety burns the living and reduces them to ashes (see the guide on Stress Management). There are different times to acquire the different aims of life. A man should acquire learning in his childhood; in his youth and middle age he should attend to Wealth (Artha) and Love (Kama); and in his old age he should perform Spiritual or Dharma, and thus seek to gain Salvation or Moksha, i.e. release from further transmigration according to Hindu belief. Or, on account of the uncertainty of life, he may practice them at times when they are needed to be practiced. But one thing should be noted, he should lead the life of a religious student until he finishes his education.
