GENESEE COUNTY/Bethany Barn destroyed by fire on Transit road A State Trooper passing by 10396 Transit road called 9-1-1 to report flames pouring from the roof of a barn just south of Rt. 63 in Bethany about 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. Bethany Fire Chief Ryan Morgan says when he arrived on scene flames were about 100 feet in the air and the roof had collapsed. Morgan said that is when he cancelled the third alarm for more tankers from the western side of the county. Firefighters then went into a defensive mode and made sure the home several hundred feet away did not catch fire. No one was injured in the blaze that burned the barn to the ground. The barn was not operational and was not a sound structure according the Chief Morgan. It had not been used in 4-5 years. The homeowner was not home at the time. A storage area next to the barn did sustain some damage, but did not damage the contents inside. The storage barn contained lawn equipment and tractors. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
