GENOCIDE, Genocide, genocide. A very strong word that I never use - TopicsExpress

GENOCIDE, Genocide, genocide. A very strong word that I never use lightly. Mainly because I grew up right after WW II and knew many people as a child who survived the Holocaust, later as a teen I got to know many Native Americans, I have friends who witnessed the horrors of Rwanda in the 1990s. the problem for me with using the word genocide too loosely is it then somehow in my head diminishes the impact of just how horrible Rwanda, the Holocaust , and the settling of America were... on the other hand maybe if more people had seen Kristallnacht ( night of broken glass) for what it was becoming in 1938.. millions of lives may have not been lost.. Israel is being allowed to commit atrocity after atrocity in the name of self defence. When nearly all the acts it seeks to protect itself from have been reactions to the occupation and the very inhumane way it has been carried out. How much of a population do you have to wipe out before it becomes genocide. I DONT KNOW. This call by the EU could be called alarmist ...but I hope future historians dont have to look back at all of us and ask what were they thinking?
