GENTLEMEN ZOWONA IZIZI!! CANCELLATION OF DEMONSTRATIONS ON TUESDAY, 13TH JANUARY 2015 On behalf of the listed organizations, we write to inform you that we have cancelled the demonstrations that were expected to take place on Tuesday, 13th January 2015 in Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mzuzu, Karonga and Zomba. The demonstrations were planned in protest of the unwarranted funding from NAC of HIV and AIDS funds to organizations that are not meant to receive such funding, and the general decay of the state of governance in Malawi. We have made such a decision to cancel the demonstration because we want to give dialogue a chance. We have listened to voices that were for and against the demonstrations and have realised that the issues that we were supposed to demonstrate against were genuine and calls for demonstrations were not misplaced. However, there have been concerns on the issue of security and we feel that some elements want to overtake the peaceful demonstrations in order to cause havoc and discredit the organisers. We feel the best way forward is to engage government and find a lasting solution to the pressing issues that called us to demonstrate. We are currently working to inform all the relevant authorities including the police, City Council of the decision to cancel the demonstrations. May God bless Malawi.
