GEO staff members explain why they support Carol Ammons: Aaron Johnson-Ortiz GEO Staff Organizer (2011-present) I strongly endorse Carol Ammons because I have personally worked with her for four years on social justice and workers’ rights issues. As a community organizer and in her capacity as a member on both the Champaign County Board and the Urbana City Council she has made our community more welcoming for immigrants, more dignified for workers, and more inclusive for people of color and low-income individuals. She is the rare political leader who is directly engaged with the communities she represents. I have learned that she always does her homework. Unlike many of her fellow board members, Carol was always clearly informed about and engaged in the topics being discussed. She has a rare quality that all those in public office should have but few do; she cares deeply about justice and the lives of her fellow citizens and applies her rigorous curiosity, intellect and strategic thinking to channel that care into action. This powerful quality has led her to create real change in the lives of countless individuals in this community.
