GEORGE ERGO ESPINOSA, Ed.D. Poet Laureate, International Society of Poets (ISP) Note: Per request from a childhood friend, I am reposting the following poem which seems to have a very meaningful impact in her life, and therefore she would like to dedicate the poem to her loved one who has been loving her for almost six decades now: BEHIND THE TREES Behind the trunks of huge old trees, We played our version of hide and seek; You hid so lightly, half-body seen For me to find where you were in. I just pretended I didnt see The parts of you, clear on display; I pulled your arm and held your hand, And you began to laugh out loud. You ran around the trunks of trees, Grabbing my hand so tight your squeeze; We stumbled down, stood and yelled As if our time had no more end. At times we paused to build our homes, Behind the trees we made our rooms; You were the mom, I was the dad, At darks we hugged and showed our love. Behind those trees we set our goals, The things we dreamed: money, trips, and gold; Then gently I touched your face and chin, And sneaked a kiss, so sweet and keen. Our story ended many moons ago, The trees we shared were gone and through; On the spot you play, I told our kids, Thats where we built our family.
