GERMAN POSTER STAMPS Poster Stamps advertising the Pelikan brand - TopicsExpress

GERMAN POSTER STAMPS Poster Stamps advertising the Pelikan brand of artists paints from the Günther Wagner firm in Hannover. The firm was founded in the late 1820s, and was purchased by Günther Wagner in 1871. Wagner, a chemist, had been an employee of the firm, but when he bought the company he adopted the pelican (from his familys crest) and used it as the symbol for his firm. Originally the firm produced inks and paints for artists and draughtsmen, but eventually began producing fountain pens as well. Today the company is known for its high-quality product line. This stamp depicts a pelican holding a tube of paint in its bill, and reproduces an original poster done by Julius Diez (1870 - 1957) in 1898.
