GERS ENJOYING FINANCIAL STABILITY, SAYS MATHER Rangers have reported an operating loss of £14m for the period ended 30th June. Despite the loss Rangers chief executive Craig Mather was in a positive mood about the club’s financial health, and has said substantial progress has been made in rebuilding the club. ‘The club is in a different place to where we were in May 2012. Then, the situation was traumatic and the future uncertain. Now, we enjoy financial stability and have a solid platform from where we can focus all our efforts on achieving success as one of football’s great clubs.’ There’s more news regarding a power struggle at boardroom level as former chairman Malcolm Murray could make a return to the club if Jim McColl’s shareholders win control according to the Daily Record. He would be part of four non-executive directors at Ibrox if he were to return. Away from the those matters and Rangers manager Ally McCoist believes that his side is starting to gel after the 8-0 thrashing of Stenhousemuir at the weekend. He told Rangers TV: ‘We’ve got a long, long way to go and we’re not getting carried away by the start we’ve had to the season. ‘But the signs are that some of the performances, both individually and as a team are continuing to improve. ‘We’re starting to reach a level of consistency we are happy with but there’s still some work to be done.’ Jon Daly has said he is determined to stay in amongst the goals and doesn’t want to be moved back to centre-half. The man who scored four goals against Stenhousemuir at the weekend is quoted in the Evening Times as saying: ‘I am always happy whenever I am named in the starting line-up on a Saturday no matter where I am in the team. ‘But obviously my preference is to play up front. I was signed as a striker and that is where I have been played in the games I have been involved in so far. I suppose if I can keep scoring goals then it will make it very hard for the manager to move me so that is a good incentive for me to keep doing so.’//Stevie
