GET OUTDOORS WITH THE ART ALLIANCE OF IDYLLWILD’S SUMMER KICKOFF IDYLLWILD, CA 5/28/13 – The Art Alliance of Idyllwild is welcoming summer 2013 with a weekend celebration of art in the great outdoors. It’s the AAI’s Annual Plein Air Festival, which takes place June 7, 8 and 9th, and brings artist and art lovers together in the lovely mountain town of Idyllwild. On Friday, June 7, 2013, the festivities begin with an Artists Panel featuring renowned California plein air painters Richard Stergulz and Erich Neubert. Stergulz, a former commercial artist is known for touches of Russian Impressionism in his realistic style. He has won numerous awards for his paintings, which can be found in galleries throughout Southern California. Neubert gave up a career in the computer field to pursue his passion for art. His plein air work frequently focuses upon great American landscapes, including Mammoth Lakes, Zion National Park and Laguna Beach. He is an active member of the Southern California Plein Air Painters Association. The Artists Panel includes a live demonstration and a Q & A session, which offers a chance to learn more about the history and process of plein air from artists, themselves. The panel takes place from 7 -9 pm at the Idyllwild Living Room Gallery (54300 North Circle Drive, Idyllwild, CA 92549). Refreshments are included. On Saturday, June 8th, head out early as artists scatter through the town of Idyllwild to choose their plein air locations. From 8am until 4pm, follow the progress of the plein air artists as they create their paintings and sculptures in the open air. Discover, firsthand, the techniques that set your favorites apart from the crowd. All artists will create at least one piece of work in or near the Idyllwild Community Center park, on Hwy. 243, to celebrate its 1-year anniversary. Sunday offers a chance to take home these one-of-a-kind pieces of art at the Awards Reception and Art Sale at the Idyllwild Living Room Gallery. Enjoy live music and champagne at the reception, which takes place from 9am until 1pm. All of the plein air work will be showcased and the Judges cash awards will be presented. Cash awards include $200 first place, $125 second place and $75 third place. Be sure to cast a vote for your People’s Choice or Artists Choice favorite. All plein air artwork, as well as other pieces by the plein air artists, will be on sale at the reception. This year marks the 12th anniversary of the Art Alliance’s Annual Plein Air Festival, sponsored this year by the Idyllwild Town Crier. The AAI is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with a mission to promote art and artists in Idyllwild and foster the town’s reputation as one of the top 100 art towns in America. Other AAI events include the Judged Artist Member’s Show and Gallery Working Artist Tour in July, The Art and Treasures Weekend in late August and the celebrated Art Walk and Wine Tasting in October.
