GET THE JOB YOU WANT. Priyamvada was jobless, desperate and depressed. Seventeen months had gone by since she did her MBA. On an average she sent out four to six applications a week. Her applications went unanswered. Nobody spoke English in the outskirts of the town where Priyamvada lived. In school and college, she studied through ‘guide books’ which were written in the vernacular. English was also taught in the vernacular. She spoke a little English in grammatically fractured sentences and with hesitation. To speak a sentence in English, Priyamvada first thought of the idea in vernacular and then translated it into English. Some clever instructors at the MBA course showed the students how to solve the English language problem. They downloaded sample résumés from the net and used the cut-and-paste technique. One good résumé will do the trick. It was so simple to master English, they assured the students. Each year, colleges churn out over three million job-ready youth. In spite of so many companies wanting to hire employees, there is a high rate of unemployment. The youth lack critical skills to make the grade. Ironically, the colleges that certify the youth as ‘job-ready’ are not in sync with what companies actually want. Priyamvada and the students in her class were misled by their teachers. You may not realize that you are marketing your personal brand with each résumé you send. With this realization comes the responsibility to rise above mediocrity and seriously prepare for the interview. You need the right mindset to develop cutting-edge skills on how to write impressive résumés, face interviews with confidence and get the job you want. To get the job you want, log on to cedrickenny
