GETTING A JOB or ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A JOB? (I wish to reproduce the article that I wrote and uploaded on my fb on June 2, 2010 at 11:11pm in the name of helping our newly graduates to get their dreamed jobs) Gone were the days where university qualifications could guarantee any individual to get a good job. Among reasons of why Graduates failed to get employed:- They failed to get noticed by the prospect employer They failed to market themselves They failed because of poor communication They failed because of bad choice of attires They failed because of lack of confidence They failed because of bad attitude They failed because there were better candidates than them They failed because they don’t have competitive advantage They failed because they were not ready to enter job market They failed because they refused to work outside their hometown They failed because they were too picky They failed because they did not show their maturity They failed because they could not meet the EMPLOYERS’ EXPECTATIONS EMPLOYERS EXPECTATIONS They expect someone who is committed They expect someone who is willing to learn new things They expect someone who is willing to develop himself They expect someone who can talk good in English or BM They expect someone who has the confidence They expect someone with right attitude They expect someone with warm personality They expect someone who has the leadership quality They expect someone is looking for a career and not a job They expect someone who is an initiator They expect someone who has self image They expect someone who can work as a team Employers also expect someone who has a value added qualities such as:- Speak foreign languages Has religious knowledge Interested in sports Has good net-workings Has computer skills Nonetheless, Employers also will still give consideration to the following graduates:- Someone with CGPA of 2.0 Someone who speaks broken english Someone with less solid experience Someone from average life Someone who has no value added attributes Someone who does not dress well Someone who has no influential net-working Someone who is naive BE PREPARED (To acquire the following skills) Technical skills:- Learn how to write good letter Learn how to prepare good resume Learn intensive English or Mandarin Learn how to dress nicely or impressively Know your subject very well Know the “rules” of interview Know your limitation Humanistic skills:- Learn how to be humble Learn to be polite Learn to be honest Learn the true meaning of responsibility Learn when or when not to respect others Learn to admit mistake Learn not to make stupid argument Learn to make net-working thru friends Conceptual skills:- Read more on companies of your interest Read newspaper daily Read on work cultures Understand the type of job that you apply Understand why we should have a career Understand the difference between a career and a job Entrepreneur skills:- Get ready for small budget for job interview Have as many part-time jobs as you can Prepare to do the job not related to your qualification Willing to be relocated outside your hometown Use your education not to have job or business but TO HAVE LIFE DURING THE INTERVIEW SESSION TELL THE INTERVIEWERS (Make an effort to throw out your best to impress the interviewers with intelligent and sensible statements by saying some of the following examples) I am a person who is looking for a position that challenges me to give my best and that gives me the opportunity for personal and professional growth in my present and future undertakings. I am a hard and able person, disciplined, ethical, fast learner, a team player and willing to face any challenge. No matter what task is assigned to me, I will take it on positively. LEARN TO UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS NO GUARANTEE ON ANYTHING THAT WE PURSUE IN THIS WORLD.
