GHANA TODAY UNDER PREZ JOHN MAHAMA# Oh, weve been here for far too long; More than long enough. Would we ever dream about over promise land; Or, have we forgotten it forever; we poured blood; We shed thick salty tears; We broke bones; And emptied them of fresh marrows; Believing we could reach there on our own; Then thick drops of jealousy, envy, greed, and strange mistrust drizzled In the dawn of our freedom; Turning into great ocean; That ocean which separated our forefathers from the promised land. Now great rains wash us away; And yet were thirsty;our land is still a fertile virgin; and yet were hungry. oh,ummm, not because we lack what it takes to feed ourselves; But because yesterday wont allow us to enter today; And tomorrow is far away from sight. On our own land; We live lives of refugees; With empty calabashes in hand; begging everywhere; because what makes us higher than beasts;Weve sacrificed to our egos; What makes us great men;Strange animosity, selfishness and their associates have devoured;how long would we be here;Perhaps, were waiting for another generation; To bring rescue boats; Couldnt we be that generation?
