GIRLS VOLLEYBALL (19-3) is making the MIAA seeding board take a good look at itself in the mirror. The no. 4 Tigers eliminated no. 1 Brookline at mid-week, before disposing of no. 2 North Quincy (19-4), 3-0. Things didnt start well for the Red Raiders, as senior libero Nancy Huang injured herself diving for the ball on the first point of the match. On the other side of net, it seemed like nothing could go wrong. Senior captain Emma Tavolieri served the Tigers into an early lead. North Quincy looked to be finding its feet after a jittery start, tightening the score up at 15-11. Then senior captain Alana King headed to the service line. Kings serving helped the Tigers to a 25-12 first set win, even with the interruption of a North Quincy timeout. The second set didnt go much better for the Red Raiders. King featured heavily in Norths dominance, continuing her strong service game and peppering her opponent with strong spikes. Senior captains Micaela Cohen and Infiniti Thomas-Waheed contributed from the service line and the net respectively, as the Tigers cruised to a 25-11 set win. In the third set, NQ showed signs of life, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. It didnt last long, as North came roaring back to take control. The Red Raiders had no answer for the Tigers accurate passing and strong hitting. NQ came within six points, but got no closer, falling 25-18. North made quick work of its opponent, with the match lasting just over an hour. The Tigers will face Concord-Carlisle in the State semifinals on Wednesday.
