GIVEAWAY #3 In a few weeks, my second book, Before the Sky Fell, a prequel to Killshot will be releasing. It is a glimpse into the months prior to Solar Storm Icarus, and what brought these kids all together on that fateful night. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. SO....in honor of my inability to delay gratification, here are some teasers, and an awesome excerpt from the NOT YET RELEASED Book! TWEET about #Killshot or #BTSF for a chance to win an ARC and read it before its available to the general public! Plus, you can follow me @ariamichaelsya for extra chances to win tonights other prizes.... AND NOW....A special sneak peek of Before the Sky Fell. This guy was a real piece of work. He was barely inch taller than me, but the extra weight he carried around his mid-section made him seem shorter. He reeked of cheap aftershave, cigarettes, and cinnamon (probably from the gum he chewed to hide his nicotine habit). He flipped through the pages on his clipboard as he walked over toward the end my brother’s hospital bed, his out-turned feet shuffling heavily across the floor. “What do you want,” I growled, narrowing my eyes at him. “This isn’t exactly the best time for a visit, in case you couldn’t figure that out.” “Umm. So, you must be Olivia then,” he said nervously, clearing his throat. He shoved his clipboard under his arm and cautiously extended his sweaty lump of hand out as if I would jump at the opportunity to shake it. Yeah, not so much. “It’s Liv,” I corrected him, glaring with satisfaction when he realized I left him hanging. “And since you are obviously deaf or something, I said, what do you want?” “Easy, Miss Larson,” Officer Johnson said, gently laying his hand on my shoulder. “Right, Liv,” he said, scribbling something on his clipboard that seemed way longer than my name. “Got it.” “What the hell is this guy doing here, Johnson,” I asked. “Well, okay then. So….” Trundle said, trailing off in thought. He stared down at the papers in his hand, and for a moment it was as if as if the rest of us were not even there. Whatever he was looking at, I supposed the view was better than the death-stare I was shooting at him. Once he had gathered himself, he finally spoke again. “As I said, my name is Mr. Trundle, and I am with Social Services. I am here to evaluate your case.” “Case?” I glared at Officer Johnson, my fight or flight response suddenly kicking into high gear. “What is he talking about? What case?” “Relax, Liv,” Johnson said, gently squeezing my shoulder. “Let’s just hear him out, okay?” “At any rate,” Mr. Trundle continued, clearing his throat. He grasped his trusty clipboard tight against his belly as if it were a security blanket. “I am here, on behalf of the Department of Human Services and the State of Illinois, to both ascertain next of kin and establish a placement option.” “Placement?” My legs suddenly felt shaky again. “Next…next of kin?” Beans finally opened his eyes, no longer able to deny the terror that he was feeling; the same abject horror that was currently ripping through my chest. It had been less than three hours since we lost our parents, and now this? Rather than fall over (or worse, pass out again), I slowly lowered myself onto the chair, my hand still tightly clasped around my brother’s. Mr. Trundle relaxed a bit when he saw me sit down. He set his clipboard onto the rolling tray table at the end of my brother’s bed, and leaned his thick arms across the fake wooden surface. “Okay, then, Miss Larson. Who is your nearest living relative over the age of eighteen?” He clicked his pen and pressed the tip to his stack of papers. “We will need to get in contact with them as soon as possible to start making arrangements.” “No,” I said, shaking my head as I sank back, numbly, into the uncomfortable wooden chair. “I’m sorry?” Mr. Trundle looked legitimately confused. “No what, Miss Larson?” “There’s no one,” I said, bile rising in my throat. “We have no one but each other now.”
