GIVING BACK DURING THE HOLIDAYS ... When families give back during the holidays it just makes Christmas that much better. Of course kids love getting presents at the holidays, but what truly makes the season special is the genuine sense of goodwill all around them. Children love being helpful (it makes them feel grown-up), and volunteering gives them the chance to experience the deeply rewarding payoff that comes from making someone else happy. Understand that you have the power to make a difference in the community, and doing that is a big part of the holiday season . AND GIVING BACK doesn’t necessarily mean spending lots of money. Here are some ideas : You can adopt a family or a child and provide a gift. (we will be posting information about ANGEL TREE OF NUEVO, where you can choose an angel tag) There are many animal shelters or rescues that are in need of volunteers to walk , play or help clean pet areas. They are also in need of food, blankets, toys etc.. Volunteering to serve a holiday meal at a shelter or sing to people at a nursing home only costs a few hours of time. How about serving a meal at a soup kitchen. If your family decides to donate food, bring the kids to the food pantry so they can help stock the shelves and see the people visiting the pantry. Kids can help their parents write letters and holiday cards to soldiers, it doesn’t have to have a cost value, it’s the experience and the spirit of it. The positive feeling that kids get from helping others will last much longer than any material gift they receive. They’ll be motivated to participate in community service long after they stop playing with toys. When you make someone happy, you are always joyful.
