GNRD Announces its International Conference on Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights In the framework of its International Initiative on Human Rights and Counter-Terrorism Global Network for Rights and Development, (GNRD) is pleased to announce an international ministerial level conference Balancing Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights: Challenges and Opportunities, that will be held at the Hotel President Wilson, 47, Quai Wilson, Geneva, Switzerland on February 16 - 17, 2015. The conference will provide a multi-dimensional analysis and discussion on globally implemented counter-terrorism measures from a human rights perspective, defining the most relevant security threats and challenges, such as increasing radicalization, oppression of civil liberties and the phenomenon of foreign fighters. Leading experts in the field of counter-terrorism and international human rights will present an overview of most relevant challenges and developments in promoting human rights while countering terrorism. The programme of the conference will also include a discussion of the draft of the International Convention on Balancing Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights, as well as an introduction of the International Initiative on Human Rights and Counter-Terrorism, coordinated by GNRD. The conference programme will include presentations from speakers from leading institutions and think-tanks, including the Center for Research and Security Studies in Pakistan, Chatham House, Oxford, International Law and Policy Institute, Oslo. The conference audience will be comprised of key decision makers and opinion leaders in the field, such as Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Justice, related structures of the United Nations and other international governmental and nongovernmental organizations, as well as researchers and experts. The participation at the conference is already confirmed by a number of key decision makers and opinion leaders in the field, with representation from 26 countries.
