Novena in anticipation for the feast of good Saint Joseph begins today, Monday March 10th, and ends on Tuesday, March 18th. His Solemn Feast day is March 19th, which will fall on a Wednesday this year- the traditional day of the week dedicated to Saint Joseph. Having been prefigured from of old in many patriarchs, St. Joseph who is called Just by the Holy apostles of Scripture, is indeed the embodiment of all the goodness found in the old testaments holy fathers combined; thus his own place in the fullness of time as the last holy patriarch and the one deemed most fit for the role of foster-father to the Man-God, and spouse to the Virgin Mother. Being the Virgin-Father of Jesus himself, and having been sanctified from the stain of original sin right after his conception, Saint Joseph completes the circle of the “earthly trinity” well known as the Holy Family. Saint Joseph’s most notable type among the holy patriarchs, thus the one with great resemblance to him, however, was the old Joseph, Son of Jacob, and whose brothers had sold him into exile in Egypt, Indeed, apart from having the same name, like the old Joseph who to deny him his family inheritance was sold and forgotten by his own kinsmen, good Saint Joseph though from the royal lineage of King David, was such as obscure man, living in abject poverty not worthy of being even related to royalty. But again, like the old Joseph who in God’s own time, raised him to the ranks of Prince of Egypt, Good Saint Joseph in God’s perfect providence was prepared and saved for God’s most noble task ever given to any male creature who will ever walk the surface of this earth. This was the singular right to share in Divine Fatherhood of the Eternal Father, while being co-spouse with the Holy Ghost in his true marriage to Mary. Thus, aside his right as an adopted son of God to which we all men are called by virtue of Christ’s redemption, these other divine prerogatives granted Saint Joseph, puts him in an exclusively unique class of sainthood, second to that of our Lady but incomparable to any other saintly glory. Honour due Saint Joseph is therefore called PROTODULIA (first or prototype of the saintly order.), making him a great and powerful intercession not only for specific interests, but any field of want in our lives. Truly, it was Saint Joseph, of whose homeland Bethlehem is translated to mean “ the House of Bread”, thus fulfilling the Holy prophecy which speaks of the coming of the Great Manner from Heaven. Truly, it was Saint Joseph to whom the “Bread of Life” was entrusted for 30 good years of His earthly mission, concealed from his enemies, until His appointed time. Thus, as we know that the old Joseph was put in charge of perishable grain which formed the daily ration of people’s daily bread in that time of starvation in the world, how then can we not understand how the Blessed Trinity also willed to place Saint Joseph as the Chief- custodian of the true Grain of Salvation, and its pure “barn” –the Blessed Virgin. What then shall we lack if we are to seek the great protection and patronage of this holy saint and fly to him in all our necessities, when God Himself in all his authority has irrevocably binds Himself in total submission this pious soul, by virtue of his great humility and exemplary life? Thus He wishes us to do same, for as Saint John Bosco said, the world will no peace until they have fully realized the power of Joseph. Indeed, GO TO SAINT JOSEPH: AND DO ALL THAT HE SHALL SAY TO YOU. In reverently observing his novena and his feast day, may we be graced to begin a more ardent devotion to him who it has been given a share as Co-redemptor of the world, especially in these latter times; for as Christ came the first time through His Most Holy Family, so shall He come again by them. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, we love you; save souls. Amen.
