GOA BIRDING: Dark fronted Babbler The dark-fronted babbler (Rhopocichla atriceps) is an Old World babbler found in the Western Ghats of India and the forests of Sri Lanka. They are small chestnut brown birds with a dark black cap, a whitish underside and pale yellow iris. They forage in flocks in the undergrowth of forests constantly making calls and uttering alarm calls when disturbed. Measuring just 13cms with a square tipped tail. When we were walking along the roadside near Bondla WLS on the last day at around 10am it was bright sunny and there was a thick shrubs and dense undergrowth beyond which was a sparsely flowing stream , as usual Pankaj Lad heard some calls and alerted us about these babblers, and indeed they were seen inside the thickets of undergrowth. It was an extremely arduous task to even spot them leave aside photographing. Finally I got it with patience and perseverance.
