GOD ACTIVE MAN PASSIVE> John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. be born again is translated from the Greek word gennethe. Gennethe is in the passive voice. The passive voice tells us the subject is the recipient of the action. You cannot birth yourself, just as you have nothing to do with your first birth you have nothing to do with your second birth. It is a sovereign work of God. You are the recipient of that work. God active, man passive. This was written over 1500 years before John Calvin was born.
