GOD OF THE DAY DAY ONE HERMES Messenger of the gods,God of trade, of transitions and boundaries,travelers and guide to the underworld. Identified with the ROman god Mercury. He moved freely between the worlds of the mortals and the divine as a messenger and emissary of the gods. In some myths hes a trickster and outwit various other deities for the benefit of humankind and his own ego. Some things associated with him are: the Herma,rooster, tortoise, winged sandals and cap and his Heralds staff called a Kerykeion or caduceus which consisted of two snakes twined up a staff with wings at the top. He is a cunning god. and values intelligence and wit. Scholarly speculation that Hermes derives from a more primitive form meaning one cairn is disputed. The word hermeneutics,In Greek a lucky find is a hermaion.and the study and theory of interpretation, is derived from hermeneus. The earliest mention of Hermes found is in in Mycenean greek in syllabic script. Most scholars derive Hermes from the Greek word herma (a stone, roadside shrine or boundary marker), dedicated to Hermes as a god of travelers and boundaries
