GODLY PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF 25 SEPTEMBER Daily Readings 1. 1 Chronicles 8 2. Ezekiel 21 3. Luke 18 ‘Now there was a widow in that city: and she came to him, saying, “Get justice for me from my adversary” John 18:3 (NKJ) Persistence is perseverance, going on even when you feel you cannot do it anymore. A persistent person is a person who is steadfast, immovable, a person who does not faint. It is a person who trusts, who has got hope, who in spite of everything expects to triumph. So many times I heard people saying ‘I had it, enough is enough’, sadly even born again Christians sometimes say that. As Christians we are expected to do what Jesus did while on earth, even more. He never said ‘enough is enough’ and retreat, He kept on, even when He felt that it was hard. Matthew In 26:38-39 He said “...My soul is very sorrowful, even to death: remain here, and watch with me’. And going a little farther He fell on His face and prayed, saying, ‘My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will’. Here we see our King persevering to the end, He did not only come to die for us but He also won the entire battle for us. We do not have to do anything out of our own strength as we are guaranteed that through Christ we are more than conquerors. Persistence always pays off, here we hear about the Judge who proclaimed that he does not fear God, yet God ‘used’ him to bring justice to the widow who was crying to Him day and night. In the book of Galatians 6:9, Paul said “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up”. In 2 Timothy 4: 7-8 he said “I have fought a good fight of faith, I have finished the race, there is laid up for me the crown”. Jesus warns us to persevere till the end, in Revelation 2: 10 He said”. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown”. Do not give up continue praying God will pay attention to your prayers and give you what you need. This type of persistence can only be acquired through Jesus Christ who strengthens us, so do not let go of Him as He will never let you down. Khanyisile Makhanye Prayer: Lord, Jesus help me to be persistent in prayer, in doing good, in doing what You have call me to do. For when I see you I want to hear You say “Well done, good and faithful servant”. Amen of the world to bring in the harvest that is ripe right now. Amen.
