GOD’S FORGIVENESS 1 John 2:1, “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” The unsaved might cry for a thousand years – but if there was no Mediator, there would be no hope for them because no man can approach God without a Mediator. The sinner cannot reach God except through Jesus. Faith allows me to embrace what Jesus did for me on the Cross. He died for us; He reigns in power for us and still prays for us. Following Christ’s example, we are to pray for our friends and acquaintances, even when they hurt us. Is there someone you can pray for today? Nothing makes you love a person so much as praying for them. It is also God’s will that you remember that you have sinned and have been forgiven. That remembrance creates in you a merciful, compassionate heart towards others. Stay current, do not bring up past accounts that are paid for and forgiven. If you fail to receive God’s forgiveness, or fail to forgive those who sinned against you, you will be in a torture chamber. You will find yourself having to accomplish everything totally in your own strength, ability and intelligence. That leads to high stress and emotional torture that comes with constant striving. They work hard and struggle greatly but never succeed because they depend on earning God’s forgiveness, which is not possible. God’s forgiveness cannot be earned, it can only be received. No matter how many good works or how fine an attitude we put on, we cannot do enough to earn God’s forgiveness. Forgiveness is what God does for us on our behalf. Let us trust Him to act even when we do not know what to ask for.
