GOD’S RESOLVE By: Larry W Criss, Pastor “For he hath said, ‘I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.’” Hebrews 13:5 We are nearing the time of beginning a new year. A time when many people resolve to do what they resolved to do this time last year. Some failed, hence another resolution. The dictionary defines resolution as a resolve or determination, firmness of purpose, steadfast, fixed, unwavering, undaunted. I know of one those words certainly apply to. He Hath Said – Of the Lord Jesus we read: “.. When the time was come that he should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem.” And this: “But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!” And also this: “Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?” How resolved was our Redeemer to the salvation of His people. And to everyone of them “He hath said, I will never leave you.” That One I need more than anyone else, that is all my salvation. Without Him, I’m without hope, and without God in the world. Never, Never, Never – This promise given here in Hebrews 13 is actually a quote from the Old Testament. It was given various times to God’s people. God gave this promise to Joshua after the death of Moses, telling him ‘ as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.’( Joshua 1:5 ) And that is His promise to each of His own. It may happen that we will see friends and loved ones go the way of all flesh. We may ourselves. But death cannot separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. No, rather that is the very means He brings His children home, to the Father’s house, to be with Him forever. No Better News – What a blessed word from our God to end and begin another year. This promise was also given to Jacob at Bethel when fourteen years of great trial was before him. “And behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.” ( Genesis 28:15 ) Blessed promise! And God will do all that He has spoken concerning us. “That He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” The resolve, the will of our God who is in the heavens and doing whatsoever He has pleased will never leave you nor forsake you, children of God. So now the future holds no fear – God guards the work begun, And mortals are immortal here – Until their work is done.
