GOING FISHING! From time to time weve all become restless knowing the Lord wants us to stop and wait on Him. But, has your restlessness4 become so agitating that you cant stand sitting around one minute more? The Apostle Peter went through the same thing. Youll recall that after His resurrection, Jesus instructed His disciples to stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high (Luke 23:49). But all this waiting around was too much for Peter. Besieged with restlessness, he soon announced, Im going fishing! So, with several other disciples in tow, off he went. Although they fished all night, they caught nothing. What did Jesus do? Instead of waiting for Peter and the others to shape up and get them back to the city, He met them at the sea and helped them catch their fish! He called out to them, Friends, havent you any fish? No, they answered. He said, Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some. When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish (John 21:5-6, NIV). What flexibility and compassion He showed toward His restless, wayward sons! Has restlessness so gotten hold of you that youve gone fishing? If so, let the Lord meet you right where you are and help finish whatever youre doing outside His will. Hell then guide you back to Jerusalem with a new desire to wait for Him and His perfect timing! (REPOST A. MC)
