GOING TOO FAST? Khlong Thom To Ao Luk 88km The rain and roadworks over the last few days have been spreading the dirt, all over Fiona and the panniers. And its been affecting the gear shifting. Ive tried to clean it all up, and played with adjustments, but Im riding on the middle chain ring only, and cant seem to get it working correctly. Need to find a bike shop. Its very, very hot, and Ive deliberately got off the main drag. Its so much quieter, and so much more to see, and generally there is more shade. The terrain is covered in what I think are limestone uprights, similar to the Punikaiki gorges. Spectacular, and would be very photogenic with a decent camera. I do try for a few shots, but Im sure Mr Napper, or Mrs Burry would do them justice. First thing I see when I get back on the main highway are a Dutch couple on recumbants. Man they look awkward, the bikes that is. The couple are touring Thailand for three weeks. Its 1.30pm, and I reach Ao Luk. Decide to look for a bike shop. Find the Biiiike run by K Me and Nin. They work on the gears and shifters for an hour. Seems the clamp is moving....so its not just the dirt, nor my inability to adjust properly. And there is no charge. Wow. As I climb on my bike, and change gears, I notice my whole bottom bracket shift sideways....oh bother. Back into the shop. Another half hour and its sorted.....we hope. But now its 4pm. I ask about a hotel....... Stay with us is the call, in the flat upstairs. Oh my goodness. Im stunned by the generosity. So the evening goes....to market to buy Thai takeaways....A drive to a national park....photos of the surrounding hills from the roof, (this place is almost as spectacular as parts of the USA, or even the Dolomities).... And asking and answering questions by using Google Translate...... And I was going to just cycle through this dot on the map. I certainly hadnt looked back for a while. The view was stunning. Maybe Im going too fast?
