GONE TOO SOON My dear friend from Indiana University Journalism School, Michel du Cille died on assignment Dec 11 photographing the Ebola crisis in Liberia. He was hiking back from a remote village, had a heart attack and collapsed. They drove for two hours to a field hospital but it was too late. Michel came up poor on the north shore of Jamaica. When I met him in journalism school he had a beat up Nikon camera and a few changes of clothes. In winter I gave him a coat. Some days he didnt have enough to eat. Yet he was always happy, kind and engaging. His photo subjects loved him. Wed make up excuses on why we brought him food. We left money in his mailbox. Some fellow students thought he was a loser but one look at his photos proved he was a real star. We believed in him. He rose to Director of Photography at the Washington Post and won 3 Pulitzer Prizes - an astonishing achievement . He died doing what he loved. He made the world a better place. I still believe in him. Miss you bud.
