GOOD DAY YESTERDAY IN TEACHING: Friday I asked for prayers/good - TopicsExpress

GOOD DAY YESTERDAY IN TEACHING: Friday I asked for prayers/good vibes as I taught/facilitated, for the first time in a truly Jewish environment, a Torah portion study class Shabbat morning. Im happy to say we all had a GREAT time wrestling with the Torah portion. I even started the class off with a sing-a-long praise song, a first for the class. The 20-25 people who attend are VERY Jewishly-literate for lay people and have a generally high level of secular education and world travel as well...so I felt challenged in leading the class. Also, in a Jewish environment, it is perfectly acceptable to OPENLY QUESTION EVERYTHING, including the very existence of God, the authority of the Torah, etc. I was struck again how different a truly Jewish study environment is compared to many Christian and messianic class sessions are...in the two latter realms, if one starts questioning the very fundamental doctrines, one can rapidly become persona non grata. All in all, I felt a bit intimidated as to being able to keep it all moving in a creative direction, however, we had a fine time and a group of us continued for another hour after class, then a handful of us continued on into the Kiddush (coffee hour/lunch after services). Thanks for the prayers/good vibes, as they definitely worked!
