GOOD MORNING DIASPORA! Once upon a time in America a black person - TopicsExpress

GOOD MORNING DIASPORA! Once upon a time in America a black person could be tried and punished for the crime of INSOLENCE - rude or disrespectful behavior. In that day a police officer or any random white person could have beat, brutalized, maimed or murdered Mike Brown with impunity if he had not gotten out of the street as fast as the white person wanted him to. Jordan Davis could have been murdered by any random white person if they felt he (his friends) were disrespecting them by playing their music and or refusing to turn it down. OBVIOUSLY, the sentiment and the violent acts of terror motivated by it has not changed, although the laws have. AGAIN, CANT SAY IT ENOUGH: It does not matter if alaw is written in neutral terms. What really matters is whether that law is enforced non-discriminately; and this society is one that is famous for writing beautiful laws, which are enforced in a non-equal fashion. We recognize that the policeman is not merely an officer of the law, not merely there to enforce the law, but that the policeman has discretion in enforcing the law, and can determine when and under what circumstances (to a good extent) the law will be enforced, and against what people, regardless of how that law is written. - Dr. Amos Wilson #GoodMorningDiaspora #BlackLivesMatter #MikeBrown #JordanDavis #EricGarner
