GOOD NEWS AT LAST: AGIP MAY MEET WITH NEW AGRISABA OIL AND GAS COMMITTEE I8TH JULY Feelers from Port Harcourt have it that the Nigerian Agip Oil Company might have finally succumbed to meet with the John Idumange led new Agrisaba Oil and Gas Committee this week. Whereas the venue of the meeting was not disclosed, it is probable that the meeting will hold in Twon-Brass. It was disclosed that prominent on the agenda is the abolition of all extant structures and the recognition of the Oil and Gas Committee, the Reconciliation Committee and matters related to rejuvenation of the previously MOUs that where NAOC released monies but the jobs were either poorly implemented or out rightly abandoned. The spokesperson of AGIP from the Public Affairs Department, who preferred anonymity expressed disappointment that AGIP has previously fulfilled her commitments by way of awarding contracts but such contracts were abandoned after the contractors from the same Community had been fully mobilized. The spokesman of the Company regretted why some Agrisaba sons, including Chiefs are not transparent in her dealings with the people, adding that the Company will now spend twice for certain contracts it had already awarded. There must be accountability somewhere, the spokesman remarked. A second item that would occupy a huge chunk of the meeting is to exhume previous MOUs and identify the contractors, contract sums and level of mobilization of such contracts. The two parties disclosed that they will be firm in terms of implementing MOUs. The Chairman of the Oil and Gas Committee Dr. John Idumange was quoted to have said that every kobo stolen from Agrisaba community must be accounted for. He recalled that way back in 2000, before Agrisaba became a host Community, he and Dennis Otiotio represented the Community to negotiate an MOU in which three projects were earmarked for implementation and wondered why 13 years after, the Community has no potable water.
