GOOD NEWS FOR THE UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS!! Since December 28, Congress has left Oregonians looking for work out in the cold. With the expiration of emergency unemployment benefits, more than 20,000 Oregon families who lost their jobs through no fault of their own have been left without a lifeline. Ive been working since December to renew these essential benefits, and finally Democrats and Republicans have come together to right this wrong. I was part of a bipartisan group of five senators from each side of the aisle that announced late last week that we have found a compromise to extend these benefits. That compromise could pass the Senate as soon as next week. This legislation would also ensure that families retroactively receive the assistance they have lost because of Congresss inaction. These benefits will help keep food on the table and a roof over the heads of struggling Oregonians and their families while they find work. I am grateful that my colleagues, both Democrats and Republicans, did not give up, and came together for a compromise that will give much-needed assistance to our most vulnerable. Please know that Ill keep working to ensure Congress does not leaving job-seeking Oregonians out in the cold. This issue is too important to give up on. All my best, Jeff
