GOOD NEWS The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) executive committee has decided to host Nepal, as well as the other Asian non-test nations with international status – Afghanistan, UAE and Hong Kong, to support these nations’ cricket. In a press release issued on Tuesday about the decisions made on the previous day’s executive committee meeting, SLC has stated that it has decided to approve the request made by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for them to host Nepal, Afghanistan, U.A.E. and Hong Kong. It is said that the ACC will bear the cost of the said tour. Although no further details of the said tour is available right now, with no clarity on the type of matches, quality of opposition or the duration of the tour, this is certainly an encouraging development for the non-test nations. Test nations hosting non-test ones has been a rare occurrence, with only one-off matches usually available. After the recent successful tour of Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, this decision can be seen as another landmark for the unfairly marginalized cricket nations. Sri Lanka and Nepal enjoy a good relationship and it extends to cricket as well, illustrated by two of Nepali Cricket’s success’ architects, Roy Dias and Pubudu Dassanayake being from Sri Lanka (Pubudu now a Canadian citizen), and this decision can only help build respect for Sri Lanka in front of Nepali cricketing community. While this news has brought joy to all cricket lovers, let us hope Sri Lanka make it even better by providing plenty of fixtures against a strong international side and not just limit this to a token tour.
