GOOD READ!!! Breadman Edwards on The COLD War, Klitchkos, Tyson vs Holyfeild, P4P Jones vs Money, Tito vs Money vs Everyone, and GGG. I don’t know why the Cold War was created. Lots of things go on off the record and behind the scenes. But I do know that Top Rank and Golden Boy did big business on PPV shows. They just couldn’t do business when it came to making the Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight. This is not my opinion they were at least 6 big events and 4 of them included Manny Pacquiao. That’s fact. Youtube each of these fights and you will see Top Rank and Golden Boy Banners hanging above the ring: Pacquiao vs. Marco Antonio Barerra, vs. Juan Manuel Marquez II, vs. Ricky Hatton and of course vs. Oscar De La Hoya. Also Bernard Hopkins vs. Kelly Pavlik and Shane Mosley vs Antonio Margarito. And I believe Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Daniel Ponce De Leon was also a co-promotion between the two companies…… I personally think the term was misused and once again you had people repeating false statements the Cold War took a life of its own. Golden Boy and Top Rank did lots of great business, one big fight screwed up everything. Before that they were fine. You are wrong about Floyd not fighting a Roach trained fighter. Floyd beat Oscar De La Hoya when Roach was in his corner. The Oscar who fought Tito and Mosley at welterweight was a great fighter. But I believe the best version of the Golden Boy was the one at 140 who beat Chavez in the first fight. I always thought he moved to 147 too fast. As good as he was against Mosley and Trinidad he found a way to fight the wrong fight at key points of both matches. So I assume Mayweather who usually does the correct thing would prevail in a controversial close decision. A prime Tito in my opinion would be too big and forceful for Floyd. There is a great chance that Floyd would outbox him and people would make the Oscar comparison but Oscar is bigger than Floyd and his left hand is serious. And Oscar faded badly in the Tito fight. He played it safe for a reason. It took a huge guy in Hopkins to be able to hold Tito off. I don’t believe Floyd could hold him off and I think Tito would walk him down and win a decision. The Mosley who blew through 135 up until the Forest fight would have been a handful for Floyd. I think they would have had to fight 3 times to decide who was better. The Paul Williams fight would have been intriguing. Williams had an off night on his prime run against Carlos Quintana but avenged with a vengeance. Floyd boxes better than Quitana..This is another tough fight for Floyd because of the size, chin and volume. I know these answers seem politically correct but this is another match up I feel would have had to be decided by a series of fights. On the best night he ever had I say Mayweather pot shots and beats him but I’m not super sure. I would assume that Klitschko, Marquez and Bradley are all hovering around the same place in p4p status. The reason why they have more bumps lately is because of level of competition my friend. Klitsschko deserves credit because he can only fight who is available. But the guys he is fighting are horrid. Kubral Pulev was supposed to be the best available guy. HBO decided to even show the bout. I give him full credit for being a tough, gutsy competitor. But his foundation as a boxer is terrible. The man fights in a straight legged stiff manner, and he holds his guard, high and out and he waves his hands like he’s washing windows. To top it all off he has poor reaction time. Are you kidding me he’s lucky he wasn’t killed. Excellent performance by Klitschko but..... I respect Wladimir as a champion. His ability to overcome his early losses. His longevity and consistency make him a Hall of Fame champion. But I’m just big on him vs all time great fighters who don’t discourage. Heck I’m not big on him vs the Tim Witherspoon’s and Ray Mercer’s of the world. Please don’t compare Ali to Klitshcko my friend. Because if you compare the holding, then you have to compare the chins, toughness, heart, stamina and character. Wlad literally had a panic attack vs. Samuel Peter in their first fight. Ali clinched and maneuvered. Wlad panics and grasp for dear life when you get near him. What does him not having to come from behind on the scorecards have to do with anything. You pick holes in great fighters resumes to uplift Wlad. I can easily say Louis or Ali were never concussed by the likes of Ross Purity. Seriously Ross Purity. Viltali is an interesting case. I actually think he’s better than Wlad but most don’t agree with me. But he’s also gangly a little uncoordinated in spots and he lost to the two best fighters he ever faced. People dismiss the Chris Byrd fight but Vitali QUIT on a fight he was leading comfortably in. He had a shoulder injury but so what, fight with one arm it’s been done. Maybe he quit because what we saw going on in the ring, was different from what he felt was going on being in there. Maybe Byrd’s never say die attitude and elusiveness were really frustrating Vitali. Maybe that’s why he pleaded so bad to continue after the brutal cut in the Lewis fight. I’m more of a Vitali fan than I am a Wlad fan but I don’t hold either guy as high as some. Holyfield vs Tyson would have been a great fight in 1990 or 91. But seeing what happened in 1996 I have to assume Holyfield would have always beaten him. In 1996, Holyfield was the one who had lost to Riddick Bowe by ko the year before and struggled with Bobby Czyz. He also had the tough fight with Michael Moorer and he was 4 years older than Tyson. So if Tyson had slipped so did Evander who was the underdog in the fight. People always ask what would have happened in 1990 or 91 like Holyfield beat up an old Tyson. Holyfield was 4 years older!!! Roy Jones is bigger than Ray Robinson but the Robinson was teetering back in forth between welter and middleweight in the late 40’s would have been enough. He could match Jones’s volleys. He was a harder puncher. He had a better chin and he jabbed more. Super middleweight might have been too much for Robinson who started at 134lbs. But if Bernard Hopkins could win 4 rounds against the middleweight Jones I assume Ray Robinson could have beat him. Roy Jones of 94-97 had the highest peak of any fighter of the last 20 years or so, Floyd included. I liked how Wlad responded. He handled Pulev like the champion he is. That left hook is sick. Yes I do believe that GGG and Kovalev would be smart to go after Ward in his first fight back. I also favor the Bradley2 version of Pacquiao to beat Algieri, let’s see who shows up.
