GOODWILL MESSAGE BY THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SPEAKER OF THE AKWA IBOM STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ON THE OCCASION OF THE 27TH ANNIVERSAY OF THE CREATION OF THE STATE THIS TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD, 2014. Let me use this opportunity of our 27th anniversary of the creation of our dear state to congratulate the people and government of Akwa Ibom for witnessing another anniversary. I am pleased to be part of this happy celebration. When our forebears saw the need for a separate state in the Nigerian federation, they had in mind a state where the numerous resources that abound in the state would be used in the development of the land and her people. Today we can boldly say that the dreams of our founding fathers of have been fulfilled to a large extent in the last 27 years. We have had our decayed infrastructure reconstructed while new international facilities to enhance the living standard of our people have also been added. Although we are have not yet reach our desired destination but certainly we are not where we were 27 years ago. We have moved so rapidly that today we are counted among the fastest developing states in the federation. Indeed, the eyes of the world have been turned to our dear state as we continue to actualize the dreams of our fathers. Let me at this point congratulate successive administration in the state who toiled for the development of the state. The military administrators and the civilian administrations of Late Obong Akpan Isemin and Arc (Obong) Victor Attah did their very best, the pragmatic and energetic Chief (Dr) Godswill Akpabio has also done so much to justify the mandate of the people by uncommonly transforming our state this past 7 years in particular. As we mark another anniversary, it is my hope that our people will continue in love and harmony which was the cord that bound our forebears together in their quest for a separate state for our people. We are one despite our different tongue or ethnic group. We should not allow politics to divide and pitch ourselves against one another especially as we approach another general election that is expected to produce a successor. We should look beyond personal interest in the search for a worthy successor and support Chief Godswill Akpabio’s succession plan which is aimed at consolidating our place at the top in terms of rapid development. Long Live Akwa Ibom State and God bless. Rt. Hon. (Elder) Samuel Ikon Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly
